Most infestations require both methods. And remember, the better you understand any pest, the easier it will be to eliminate or control. Spiders are the defence largest group of arachnids. There are more than 35,000 named species worldwide, including about defence 3,000 in North America, but probably most spider species are still defence awaiting identification. When someone brings a spider to us for identification, it is usually large (which makes one believe it might be a Tarantula) or is marked with brilliant colors (which many believe might be a black widow), but most spiders that we are asked to identify are harmless. These predators live almost everywhere defence - defence on the ground, under rocks, inside and underneath playground equipment, among grasses, on plants, in tree branches, in underground caves and even on the water.

Eliminating Indoor Boxelder Bug Infestations For larger infestations, defence use your vacuum cleaner to help eliminate the boxelders you see inside your home. This will be a great tool to use along with pesticide applications, but not a total substitution. A good residual spray that is labeled for both inside homes, exterior of homes, trees and shrubs is Tempo WP. Spray Tempo WP (using a garden sprayer such as our Chapin Sprayer) along baseboards or other areas where Boxelders are seen. The most important aspect of indoor elimination and prevention of Boxelder bugs is dusting cracks and crevices where these pest like to spend the winter. The best insecticide dust to use is Delta Dust. This odorless product is easily applied to cracks, crevices and voids using the Crusader Duster. Use Delta as often as you like, both as a preventative and curative control method for insect pests. Delta Dust will not only kill boxelder bugs and other insects, it makes any treated area unappealing to future infestations of insect pests.

When treating, defence walk around the outside of your home twice: once to spray cracks, crevices, entry points and the second time to fan-spray any surface where they might crawl or come into contact with your product. Any shrubs, small trees or bushes should also be treated as well as the ground around them and any mulched areas in your landscaping Although Tempo WP is safe to use indoors for almost any type of pest (when directions are followed), you should not have to in the case of ladybug infestations. Your vacuum will be your best tool indoors. In severe cases, Delta Dust or Drione Dust should be applied to indoor cracks, crevices, wall voids, hiding places and entry points. Dusts should be applied with a Crusader Duster. I prefer Delta Dust (because it is the world''s only water-proof dust) but either Delta Dust or Drione Dust will be a good job, if dusting is necessary. To help prevent infestations of ladybugs, treat the exterior of your home with Tempo WP in the Summer, Fall and Spring. Each application will most likely last between 4 and 12 weeks but for best results, try to time your spray treatment with the normal time of year (in your area) when ladybugs usually appear. One or two weeks before activity begins or at first sign of ladybugs (or their larvae) is best.
